Senator Scavello to Host Tele Town Hall August 15

I will be hosting my next Tele Town Hall on Tuesday evening, August 15 at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for residents of the 40th Senate District to voice their opinions and concerns regarding a host of different issues.

To ensure that you receive a call, particularly if you would like to participate via a cell phone, please visit the link below to register for the event. I look forward to speaking with all of you!

Community Papers Recognized

This past month I introduced a Senate Proclamation recognizing free community papers throughout the Commonwealth for their continued commitment to providing local news, events and advertising to our citizens. The 40th Senate District is privileged to have many weekly community newspaper publications that service thousands of area residents and I presented a number of the committed individuals who keep these papers circulating with copies of the Senate Proclamation recognizing their critical work.

Largest Outdoor Agriculture Expo in PA Takes Place Next Week

Ag Progress Days, held August 15-17 at the Russel E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Pennsylvania Furnace, Centre County, is Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor agricultural expo.

The event showcases the latest agricultural technology, techniques and trends for more than 40,000 visitors each year. It includes more than 400 commercial exhibitors, dozens of hands-on educational exhibits, guided tours and workshops.

At the Family Room building, families and children can play mini-games, watch food demonstrations, taste healthy food and drink, participate in a scavenger hunt and learn first aid and firearm safety tips. Hands-on exhibits and demonstrations will cover topics such as diabetes and diet, home food preservation, consumer food safety, the importance of drinking water for proper health and nutrition and avoiding insect bites.

PA’S First Human Case of West Nile Virus in 2017 Detected

Pennsylvania’s first probable human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection in 2017 has been detected in a Montgomery County resident.

The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes. Although mosquitoes can bite at any time of the day or night, the mosquitoes that transmit WNV are most active at dawn and dusk. You can find a map of “Hot Zones” and prevention information here.

Does an Investment Idea Sound too Good to be True?

The FINRA Investor Education Foundation provides a four-question “Scam Meter” to help you tell if an investment you are thinking about might be a scam.

It covers promissory notes, stocks, high-yield investments, and more.

The Financial Interest Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is a not-for-profit organization authorized by Congress to protect American investors by making sure the broker-dealer industry operates honestly.
