Assistance for Veterans Available
I am beginning a partnership with the Pennsylvania American Legion to assist veterans at my Brookhaven office, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24th. I would like to encourage veterans and their families who have questions about benefits and programs to schedule an appointment for these assistance hours.
A representative from the Pennsylvania American Legion will be available at my Brookhaven district office, located at 4110 Edgmont Avenue. Appointments for these hours are strongly encouraged and can be made by contacting the office at (610) 447 – 3163. If a veteran cannot attend this date, this service will be offered every fourth Wednesday of each month.
More Tools Available to Public via 511PA
The 511PA website provides traveler information for those living in and visiting Pennsylvania. The home page features an interactive map that shows incidents, construction, reported speed, weather conditions, forecasts and advisories.
To view travel information tailored to a driver’s specific route, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has added the “Check My Route” tool through which users enter “start” and “end” points and see travel alerts for state roadways along the defined route. During the winter, the tool also shows when each road was last plowed.
511PA also now features images and information from 69 PennDOT Road Weather Information System Sites along major state roadways. Each “Weather Station” shows a photo along with temperature, wind and precipitation information for that specific location.
Motorists can visit www.511PA.com to see plow-truck locations and road-plowing data, and check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 850 traffic cameras.
Winter is coming. LIHEAP can help.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides assistance for home-heating bills to keep low-income Pennsylvanians warm and safe during winter months. In the 2016-2017 LIHEAP season, 348,672 households received LIHEAP benefits.
LIHEAP season begins in November and ends in April. Winter officially starts December 21. Eligibility for LIHEAP is set at 150 percent of federal poverty income guidelines.
