Senator Killion Participates in Growing Greener III Rally at State Capitol

On Tuesday, I participated in a rally on the steps of our state capitol, celebrating and supporting the incredible work that has been done through the Growing Greener Coalition. The mission of the Pennsylvania Growing Greener Coalition is to enhance the health and economic well-being of communities across the Commonwealth by advocating for funding to conserve, protect and restore land, water and wildlife, to preserve farms and historic places, and to provide well-managed parks and recreational areas throughout the state.

Now it is time to keep this program going with adequate funding for Growing Greener III. These investments support our state’s economy and enhance the health of our communities and quality of life for our residents. Growing Greener III is needed to ensure that our communities can continue to address critical environmental priorities in three key areas; Conserving Land and Water Resources, Restoring Damaged Waterways and Land, and Creating Prosperous and Sustainable Communities.

Senator Killion Announces “Green Light-Go” Grant Recipients in the 9th Senatorial District

The “Green Light-Go” program is offered through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and this year will support 94 municipalities across the Commonwealth in upgrading traffic signals, with $33 million dollars of grant money. In the 9th Senatorial District three townships have been selected to receive assistance.

We are so fortunate in the 9th District to have received multiple grants for a couple of townships. With this added financial help from the state, municipalities will have the resources they need to make the proper changes.

Concord Township -- $144,000 for Installation of Battery Backup Systems along Baltimore Pike, Wilmington Pike, Naamans Creek Road, Conchester Highway and Smithbridge Road Corridors.

Concord Township -- $56,000 for Installation of Adaptive Traffic Signal Equipment and Software along the Baltimore Pike at Concord Road.

Middletown Township -- $108,00 for Implementation of Low Cost Safety Improvements along New Middletown Road at Glen Riddle Road and along Edgmont Avenue at Knowlton Road.

Westtown Township -- $180,000 for the Study and Removal of the Unwarranted Traffic Signal along West Chester Pike at Chester Road.

The Green Light-Go: Pennsylvania’s Municipal Signal Partnership Program (Green Light-Go Program) is designed to improve safety and mobility by reducing congestion and improving efficiency of existing traffic signals on state and local highways. The Program was recently updated [Act 101 of 2016 (Enhancing Pennsylvania's Green Light-Go Program)] and is a competitive application and reimbursement grant program requiring a 20% match for municipalities, counties, or planning organizations requesting financial assistance for existing traffic signal maintenance and operations activities identified in 75 Pa.C.S. § 9511(e.1).

The PA Department of Transportation offers a great program in ‘Green Light-Go’. This gives local townships all across our state extra assistance in much needed upgrades to traffic signals, which help to keep our roads safe and traffic moving smoothly.

It was great to have East Goshen Elementary School and Mother of Providence School in Harrisburg this week.
