I enjoyed touring New Holland Eye and Ear’s new facility and meeting with Dr. Owens and Dr. Strybos.
New taxes on utility bills, online purchases, fireworks and more could be on the way after the Senate barely passed a package of tax increases designed to address the state budget deficit. I voted against these new taxes because they take Pennsylvania further away from my goal of creating an opportunity society in which every individual can achieve earned success.
Creating new taxes on nearly every Pennsylvania family and business sends the wrong message. We need to encourage businesses and families to come here, stay here and prosper here. We cannot meet that goal if we continue to follow a path of more government spending and higher taxes.
My full statement regarding my vote against new taxes is available here.
More constituents contact me to discuss property taxes than any other issue. I look forward to joining Senator Scott Martin and members of the Senate Majority Policy Committee for a hearing to examine potential solutions to the property tax problem in Lancaster County later this month.
The hearing will be held in the Pequea Valley High School Auditorium on August 30 at 7 p.m. Additional details will be available in the weeks ahead.
