Collective Bargaining Transparency Bills Advance

Over the past several years, there has been a growing movement to make state government information more readily available to the public. This push has resulted in an unprecedented level of transparency in government spending, which is the best way to ensure accountability in how state tax dollars are allocated by lawmakers.

Last week, the Senate State Government Committee took another important step toward holding government accountable to taxpayers by approving two measures sponsored by Senator Scott Martin and me to add transparency to the collective bargaining process. The measures would broaden the Sunshine Act and the Right To Know Law to cover the process of negotiating the salaries and benefits of government and school employees.

In current practice, these agreements are negotiated completely behind closed doors, and taxpayers rarely have a chance to provide any input at all until the agreements are finalized. Our bills would ensure taxpayers have a chance to review the offers made on behalf of taxpayers and the demands made by unions, creating an opportunity for an open conversation between policymakers and the taxpayers they represent.

More information on the bills is available here.

My thanks goes out to all of the community residents who stopped by my Coffee and Conversation event this week in West Earl Township.

East Earl Concealed Carry Seminar Scheduled for June 1

My most recent Concealed Carry Seminar with Representative Mindy Fee in Lititz drew a strong crowd and resulted in a great conversation about our Second Amendment rights and the responsibilities of gun ownership. I look forward to another informative session in the next seminar, which will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Ball Fire Company in East Earl.

These events not only offer information on the process of applying for a concealed carry permit, but also offer tips and information that gun owners of all levels of experience can find useful. Local residents who are interested in attending the June 1 event can RSVP on my website at http://www.senatoraument.com/concealed-carry-seminar/.

It was an honor to present a Senate Citation to Dr. Sheard in honor of Mount Calvary Christian School at their 40th Anniversary Celebration Banquet.
